Zverev Repeats In Munich

Zverev Repeats In Munich

It was a familiar performance this year at the Munich Open, as Alexander Zverev beat fellow German Philipp Kohlschreiber, 6-3, 6-3 to earn his second consecutive title at the tournament.

Both sets were a mirror of each other as they each started out 3-3 with Zverev then taking over to win the last 3 games in each one. In the second set, serving at 5-3, Zverev locked up the title when, at set point, Kohlschreiber hit a forehand wide.

With the victory, the world number 3 has now won 7 career titles and has an 18-7 record on the year. It is his first ATP title of the year after appearing in one other final, losing to American Jon Isner at the Miami Open.

34th ranked Kohlschreiber was no stranger to the finals at the Munich Open.  He has played in 6 finals there, walking away a victor in 3 of those contests.

Head to head the two Germans are now even at 2-2 in the four matches that they have played.

Next up, both players is will be headed to Spain on Monday for the Madrid Open.
