It is rumored that Toronto Maple Leafs Defenseman Nikita Zaitsev could be heading to Ottawa in exchange for Senators’ Defenseman Cody Ceci.
Zaitsev, 27, has five years remaining on his contract which includes a salary of $4.5 million.
With the Leafs needing to clear cap space in order to keep pending Free Agent Mitch Marner in Toronto, this would be a great chance to do so as Zaitsev is coming off a season where he recorded just 14 points in 81 games played.
The Defenseman does have a modified no trade clause, which allows him to choose 10 teams to be traded too, so in order for this trade to even occur Zaitsev would have to give the okay on heading to Ottawa.
Cody Ceci, 25, on the other hand is coming off a season having played 74 games, and recorded 26 points.
This trade may not happen for the next few days, however is very likely to occur according to NHL Analyst Elliotte Friedman.
