Yankees announce starting pitcher for the AL Wild Card game

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced this afternoon that right-hander Luis Severino will start the American League wild-card game for the Yanks tomorrow night.

This decision comes after weeks of speculation, as it seemed that the Yankees would lean toward their newest lefty – J.A. Happ or Masahrio Tanka for the start. Boone spoke to the media earlier today: “A lot of guys had input in the decision with reasons one way or the other. I just took all that information and sleep on it. I felt like at some point Sunday for sure that I wanted to go with Sevy in this game and that’s where we’re at with it”.

This will be the second year in a row that Severino is given the chance to start the AL Wild Card game for the Yankees. He’ll look move past his start last year, as he was taken out in the first inning after giving up 3 runs.

Severino discussed with reporter what this decision means to him: “Means a lot.” “Means he trusts me, (believes) that I can be good. I can be better. You guys know me. I can struggle and still be better the next start.”

Boone also announced that starting pitchers: Happ,Tanaka, and Lance Lynn will be available for the Wild Card as well.   Severino finished this season at 19-8 with a 3.39 ERA and 220 strikeouts. Against the A’s, he is 1-1 with a 6.23 ERA.
