Will McDavid Request Trade Out of Edmonton?

Generational superstar Connor McDavid is in his fourth season in his NHL career with the Edmonton Oilers, and has begun to express obvious signs of frustration with the Oilers’ lack of success although he continues to improve his stats each season.

Facing injuries in his first season, McDavid only played in 45 games however still racked up 16 goals, and 32 assists for 48 points as the Oilers missed the playoffs, finishing seventh in the Pacific Division.

The next season McDavid would lead his Oilers to the playoffs, finishing second in the Pacific Division and playing in all 82 games, recording 30 goals, and 70 assists for 100 points.

McDavid would then go on to record five goals, and four assists in 13 games that playoff run which consisted of Edmonton defeating the Sharks 4-2 in the first round, then being defeated in seven games by the Ducks in the Western Conference Semi-Finals.

Last season McDavid yet again played in all 82 games, and recorded 41 goals, and 67 assists for 108 points; however Edmonton would finish sixth in the Pacific Division and miss the playoffs again.

This season the Oilers are yet again set to miss the playoffs, currently nine points out of the second Wild Card spot with 77 points.

However Connor McDavid has had his best statistical season currently with 41 goals, and 74 assists for 115 points in 75 games played.

So far in his career, the Ontario native has played in three All-Star Games, won the Art Ross Trophy in 2017, and 2018, the Hart Memorial Trophy in 2017, and the Ted Lindsay Award in 2017, and 2018.

McDavid’s eight year contract is set to end after the 2026-27 season where he is set to make $12.5 million a year; McDavid will be 29 years of age then.

At this point McDavid has displayed obvious signs of frustration due to the fact that the team he has been surrounded with has not achieved the Edmonton Oilers standard of success.

With bringing the Stanley Cup back to Edmonton being his primary goal, McDavid has to feel the pressure of the entire Oiler fan base in the fourth season of his career where he has only played 13 playoff games.

However, as a star athlete who is only 22 years of age, how many more seasons can you willingly sacrifice not winning the Stanley Cup?
