Will Coyotes Make Playoffs This Season?

It has now been four consecutive seasons with the Arizona Coyotes not being able to top 78 points in a season.

This past season they finished with only 70 points, and last place in the Pacific Division.

Now teams have had weak seasons and have bounced back the following year; New Jersey and Colorado to be exact, this past season both made playoff appearances after franchise low years.

The Coyotes do however show young talent, Veteran leadership, and a solid goalie in Antti Raanta.

In the 2017-18 season Raanta only played in 44 games due to injury, but in those games he held a .930 save percentage, and went 21-17-6.

Had Raanta been healthy, Arizona was on pace for a 90 point season.

The biggest piece to Arizona’s chance of making the playoffs this coming season, is Antti Raanta staying healthy.

With Raanta healthy the Coyotes now have a basis to make an argument.

Acquiring Alex Galchenyuk from Montreal for Max Domi was a great trade in my opinion, Galchenyuk is a solid top six Center and will help the Coyotes produce goals.

Add to the roster Derek Stepan and Arizona now has a respectable top two Centers in their lineup.

Clayton Keller had an impressive rookie season scoring 23 goals and 42 assists as a 19 year old, and will look to build off of that this year.

Dylan Strome also showed the ability to score as a youngster when he was called up from the AHL for the final ten games where he scored three goals and five assists.

Even in the free agency period the Coyotes made moves in signing Veteran Michael Grabner to a three year contract.

Grabner has the ability to score goals, and be a useful tool on the penalty kill.

The only remaining aspect of the Coyotes roster to be examined is the Defenseman.

Arizona looks solid for a team looking to have rebuild season when looking at their Defense.

As of right now it looks like Jakob Chychrun and Oliver Ekman-Larsson will be the future of the Defense in Arizona.

Not too bad as Ekman-Larsson has been looked at as one of the best offensive Defenseman in the league moving forward.

A lot is left to be done on the ice, however when looking on paper, the Coyotes look like they are on pace for a rebuild season and have the potential to be a future NHL power house.
