Will Alonso Jump to IndyCar?

Will Alonso Jump to IndyCar?

Fernando Alonso has done it all in the sport of motor racing.  Or has he?

He’s a former Formula 1 world champion and a recent winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.  He’s competed in the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the Indianapolis 500.  The question everyone is asking is whether or not Fernando Alonso will trade in his McLaren Formula 1 car for an IndyCar?

The talk of the IndyCar world for past few years has been whether or not he will make the jump.  McLaren team boss Zak Brown certainly would support the idea, as does IndyCar partner Andretti Autosport if Alonso chooses to race in IndyCar.  The relationship between Brown and Andretti is a strong one and would make a perfect landing point for Alonso if he does choose to head to the states to race next year.

Will we see more of this in 2019?

In an interview with Autoweek last week, Andretti said, “It was put to Alonso if he wants to do a partial season and he said no. If he does it, he wants to do the whole thing or not at all.”  Time will certainly tell as the Formula 1 season begins its summer break before racing at Spa on August 26th.

IndyCar is certainly ready for the star power Alonso would bring to the series.  With the unveiling of the new car for this season to the ultra competitive nature of the season so far, IndyCar would certainly relish in the popular Alonso racing with the likes of Will Power, Scott Dixon and Alexander Rossi.

Will he move?  What will he do?  We will find out in the coming weeks.
