According to Pavel Lysenkov of Match TV and NHL.com there is a 95% chance that Wild Prospect Kaprizov returns to the KHL for the 2020/21 season.
Kaprizov, a 23 year old Russian, was drafted 135th overall in 2015 by Minnesota. Since then he has grown into a dynamic offensive forward and is considered by many as the best player playing outside of the National Hockey League. He put up 62 points in 57 games with CSKA Moscow this season and has put up a total of 230 points in 293 career KHL games.
His KHL contract recently expired and it was heavily rumoured that he was looking to make the jump towards the NHL. He had even switched agencies to try to secure his entry level contract with the Wild.
However, it is now highly unlikely that he’ll be playing in the NHL next season as they’ve announced they won’t be allowing players to sign new contracts for the current 2019-20 season due to Covid-19.
Kaprizov would have to wait until January to be able to play with the Wild for the 2020-21 season and it is highly unlikely that he’d be willing to sit out from professional hockey for that long.
We’ll be releasing more information as it becomes available.
