Wenger Headed Towards Italy?

About a month after announcing his detachment from the Arsenal, Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis offered Arsène Wenger a chance to join him in Italy to lead the Rossoneri of AC Milan. Starting next week, Gazidis will take over Milan after a ten year run with the Arsenal. For the Gunners, along with Wenger, he was able to rebuild a respected London side.

A series of letdown seasons have lasted for years now, as AC Milan has become a team whose glories lie in the past, and seem to be out of their range. In the last three years, the club has shown serious attempts to reach for the top of the Serie A table with important acquisitions of Gonzalo Higuaín, Suso, and Ricardo Rodríguez.

However, the results have disappointed; Milan has not even qualified for the Champions League since their round of 16 appearance of the 2013-2014 season.

Current Milan manager, Gennaro Gattuso

Wenger’s addition could spice things up for Milan, since current boss Gennaro Gattuso has failed to prove himself able to regroup, despite having a team full of potential on his hands. Although an iconic figure for Milan, Gattuso will most likely be discharged from his coaching duties after a series of domestic and European losses. His replacement will have to show patience with young players who are hungry for wins, making Gazidis’s choice of Wenger an adequate fit.

Milan has won the UEFA Champions League title seven times, but Serie A triumph should be the goal for the time being. They rank 12th in the league so far, and things could change if a more seasoned manager takes the job of leading the club. Antonio Conte, and former Milan midfielder Roberto Donadoni, are also under consideration, with hopes of making Milan a giant of soccer, once again.
