After losing two straight fights, Kevin Lee made his return to lightweight this past Saturday after having his first full camp with the legendary coach and trainer Firas Zahabi at Tristar Gym in Montreal, Canada. He faced the up and coming undefeated Gregor Gillepse, one of the most decorated collegiate wrestlers in the UFC. Many think Gillepse is the man that can defeat Khabib.
Everyone expected Gillepse to come out looking to get an early takedown. He tried a half hearted attempt which Lee dodged out of the way quickly. But, that was the only attempt of the fight. There were some great exchanges on the feet with Lee winning the majority of them. Then out of nowhere, a right cross and a huge left high kick lands for Lee. Shutting Gillepse’s brain off, stiffening his body as he crashes into the fence unconscious in one of the scariest knockouts of the year.
So where does Kevin Lee fit into all of this? If he keeps training with GSP and Firas over at Tristar Gym, Lee will be a huge problem in the Lightweight division. He stated that he wants to fight Islam Makhachev, Khabib’s training partner. If he can get a win over Islam, the “Motown Phenom” will definitely be in the talks of title contention. He could possibly face the winner of Tony Vs Khabib. We will see what is in store for Kevin Lee in the new year, as he ends 2019 with a knockout of the year candidate.
