Was This The Wake Up Call The WWE Needed

Last night, at “the grandest stage of them all” Wrestlemania the WWE tried to pull out all the stops. Unfortunately, some decisions left a lot of us scratching our heads.

From Braun Stroman choosing a 10 year old kid to be his tag team partner to Jinder Mahal winning the United States Champion while pinning Rusev. Can you believe that happened on Rusev Day?

Overall, besides some questionable booking, the show was rather good. In previous years, Mania has left me thinking that the show was trash from start to finish. This year has quite a few upsides. Then there was the train wreck of a main event.

Imagine this for a moment. You run the WWE. You spend an entire year building to this colossal main event between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns. Then the crowd starts chanting ‘this is awful’ in the middle of the match.

I’m pretty sure Lesnar forgot how to do anything but a spear and a F5. Roman threw his trick book out the window and did nothing but a spear and the Superman punch.

When your Wrestlemania crowd goes through phases of “boring” and “this is awful” chants, it would seem like it’s time to set up a swerve in the back. Much to the fans dismay, Lesnar retained the belt over Reigns. I can’t exactly say that saved the match.

A one year build up with a guy who can’t even show up enough to be called Champion. I’ve never seen a crowd so just not into the main event of the super bowl of wrestling. The WWE should address this rather quickly on Monday Night Raw tonight. The fans didn’t leave happy. It’s that simple. As a brand, this needs to be fixed.
