Restricted free agents are players that are coming off of their rookie contracts and are looking to have their third and/or fourth year options picked up by their respective teams. Starting on July 1st, the Warriors Guard Patrick McCaw will become a restricted free agent as the Golden State Warriors have extended a qualifying offer.
Being a restricted free agent allows the player’s current team to match any offers made by other teams during the free agency period.
A qualifying offer is a one year binding contract. McCaw will have the option to accept that offer, any offers made by other teams, or he may choose to renegotiate a longer term deal with his current team.
The offer made by the Warriors was for approximately $1.6 million, which is 125% of his previous salary.
