Vincent Jackson Dies At Age 38

After getting placed on injured reserve in 2016, Vincent Jackson announced his retirement from the NFL in 2018. With Jackson retired from the league for 3 years, his life after retirement was short-lived. On Monday Morning, Vincent Jackson was found dead at the Homewood Suites Hotel in Tampa Florida. Jackson played in the NFL for 12 seasons for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the San Diego Chargers. At the time of his death, there were no findings of trauma.

According to the Hillsborough County Police Department, Jackson was staying at the hotel since January 11, 2021. On February 10 Jackson’s family issued a report stating that he was missing only for the report to be canceled on February 12th after the police spoke to Jackson and assured his family that he was safe.

During his NFL career, Jackson had 540 receptions, 9,080 receiving yards, and 57 touchdowns. Throughout his career, Jackson recorded over 1000 receiving yards in a season six times, three times with the San Diego Chargers and three times with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jackson was also voted into the Pro Bowl three times in his career. Despite starting his career with San Diego, Jackson has broken records only in Tampa Bay.

Jackson broke the franchise record for most receiving yards with 216 against the New Orleans Saints on October 21, 2012. During the same game, Jackson broke the record for the longest reception in Tampa Bay history with a 95-yard catch.

Throughout his time in the NFL, Jackson was known for his blazing speed and his ability to make spectacular plays. During his prime, Jackson was one of the most exciting receivers to watch on the field. Jackson will be dearly missed by his family, athletes, and fans. Although he will be missed, the impact that he made during his time in the NFL will be forever lasting in the minds of everyone.
