USA Men’s Basketball Reveals Roster

A 35 man roster has been announced for the USA men’s basketball team spanning the years of 2018 to 2020. A team of 12 will be selected from this group to participate and compete in the 2019 FIBA World Cup and the 2020 Olympic Games.

Here is the list provided by Team USA’s website, organized in alphabetical order by player last name:
Harrison Barnes (Dallas Mavericks); Bradley Beal (Washington Wizards); Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns); Jimmy Butler (Minnesota Timberwolves); Mike Conley Jr. (Memphis Grizzlies); DeMarcus Cousins (New Orleans Pelicans); Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors); Anthony Davis (New Orleans Pelicans); DeMar DeRozan (Toronto Raptors); Andre Drummond (Detroit Pistons); Kevin Durant (Golden State Warriors); Paul George (Oklahoma City Thunder); Eric Gordon (Houston Rockets); Draymond Green (Golden State Warriors); Blake Griffin (Detroit Pistons); James Harden (Houston Rockets); Tobias Harris (Los Angeles Clippers); Gordon Hayward (Boston Celtics); Kyrie Irving (Boston Celtics); LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers); DeAndre Jordan (Los Angeles Clippers); Kawhi Leonard (San Antonio Spurs); Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers); Kevin Love (Cleveland Cavaliers); Kyle Lowry (Toronto Raptors); CJ McCollum (Portland Trail Blazers); Khris Middleton (Milwaukee Bucks); Victor Oladipo (Indiana Pacers); Chris Paul (Houston Rockets); Isaiah Thomas (Los Angeles Lakers); Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors); Myles Turner (Indiana Pacers); Kemba Walker (Charlotte Hornets); John Wall (Washington Wizards); and Russell Westbrook (Oklahoma City Thunder).

11 players from the 2016 Olympic gold medal team have returned to join this list. 17 of this year’s NBA All-Stars also are included.
Booker, McCollum, Middleton, Thomas, and Turner are all first-time participants in the USA national men’s team.

A notable absentee from this list is Carmelo Anthony, who is the record holder for USA Men’s Basketball in games played, points, rebounds, and has the Olympic record for most 3 pointers made in a game (9). He’s the first USA player to be selected to 4 Olympic teams and win 3 gold medals. He announced his retirement from international basketball after completing the 2016 Olympics.

A mini camp going from July 25th to the 27th will help determine who will fill the 12-man roster spots for future competitions.

The competition will be fierce, as all of the players selected for the team are very talented and there are so few spots available. It will likely come down to various star players electing to sit out to make room for other players to fill the roster. For example, marquee names such as Russell Westbrook and Kawhi Leonard removed their names from consideration for the 2016 Olympic team, while James Harden and LeBron James decided to rest for the summer after playing heavy minutes all of last season. Injuries will also play a major role in who gets the final selection.

The US Olympic team also has a star-studded coaching staff with big names such as Gregg Popovich, and Jeff Van Gundy leading the way. The 2016 Olympic games were the last for Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski.
