Ty Gibbs Wins on Xfinity Series Debut at Daytona

18 Year Old Ty Gibbs Claims First Xfinity Series Win in First Start

Not many 18 year-old men can say they won a NASCAR national series race at that young of an age. However, one young man can now say that as fact. Ty Gibbs drove to victory in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Super Start Batteries 188 on the Daytona International Speedway road course. Gibbs is the grandson of Joe Gibbs Racing owner, and Super Bowl champion, Joe Gibbs. Driving the No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota Supra, Gibbs was able to hold off defending series champion Austin Cindric for the win. Daniel Hemric finished in third, while Brandon Jones finished in fourth. Kaulig Racing driver Jeb Burton round out the top five. Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota’s finished in three of the top five spots.

Ty Gibbs was very emotional after his win on Saturday. With tears in his eyes, he stated, “You know, I can’t thank everybody right now. This is like a dream come true to me. This is awesome, I can’t do burnouts, that’s one thing I cannot do at all. I just can’t thank everybody, this is just a dream come true to me. I really didn’t think I had it there. Kind of fought back and we won!” Austin Cindric rallied from an early race crash to finish second. Cindric was involved in a wreck with A.J. Allmendinger coming to the checkered flag at the end of stage one. Allmendinger attempted to block Cindric coming into the tri-oval. The two collided, sending Allmendinger into the grass and damaging the front end of Cindric’s car. Allmendinger’s car would dig into the grass in the tri-oval, damaging the car beyond repair.

  1. I am so glad that Ty Gibbs won this race today Daytona he deserved it and I am glad he beat Austin Cindric today after he wrecked AJ on the first series and took him out of the Race so he didn’t deserve to win today
