Trevor Lawrence Scouting Report

Trevor Lawrence Scouting Report

  • Position: QB
  • School: Clemson
  • Class: Junior
  • Height: 6’6″
  • Weight: 213 lbs

Trevor Lawrence was a 5-star recruit coming out of Cartersville High School in Cartersville, Georgia. He was the number one rated prospect overall and could go to school anywhere he wanted to, and decided to commit to the Clemson Tigers. Lawrence was thrust into action as a true freshman and in three years with the Tigers he threw for 10,098 yards, 90 touchdowns and 17 interceptions with a career 66 percent completion rate. He rushed for 943 yards on 231 attempts and 18 touchdowns. His best season came in 2019 where he threw for 3,665 yards, 36 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, while adding 563 rushing yards on 103 attempts and 9 rushing touchdowns.

Size: 4

While possessing great height, Lawrence is pretty thin, especially with how much he likes to run around. I remember the concerns over Lamar Jackson’s size, who is 6’2″ 212 pounds. The good thing about weight is that you can put it on, but you can’t add height.

Accuracy: 4

Lawrence demonstrates excellent accuracy on all levels of the field. I’m nitpicking here, but he sometimes just airs it out and hopes the receiver makes the play. This is not often, but it sometimes happens.

Mobility/Throw on the Run: 5

He is sneaky fast, with the ability to outrun linebackers in the open field. Whether it’s a designed run, or his protection breaks down, he looks good running the ball. Lawrence is also great at extending plays with his legs, tremendous athlete.

Pocket Presence/Poise: 5

Lawrence moves naturally around the pocket and let’s the routes develop down field. He has a good feel of incoming pressure. Lawrence also never seems to panic or get antsy, always stands strong in the pocket.

Reads/Progressions: 4

He typically goes through his reads well, but can get locked onto his first read and get to his next read late. Not a consistent problem, but it’s there.

Decision Making: 5

Lawrence hardly ever puts the ball in danger. Even when he just wants to air it out, he knows how not putting the ball in danger.

Arm Strength: 5

When you think of arm strength, you think of the cannon Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen have. Lawrence has a laser for an arm, and there’s not an area of the field he can’t deliver the ball to on a line.

Mechanics: 5

Lawrence always sets his feet and transfers his weight perfectly. Whether he’s in the pocket, outside the pocket, or on the move, he gets set and doesn’t make a risky back foot throw.

Health: 5

Lawrence tore his labrum in his non-throwing shoulder. If it was his throwing shoulder, red flags would spring up, but I don’t see this being an issue.

Score: 42/45

To find any flaws in his game, you have to look really hard and nitpick. We have being hearing about him since he was a freshman in high school, and he has lived up to that hype. Lawrence has everything you look for in a franchise QB and is a rare prospect who has a high floor AND a high ceiling.

Super hard to make one, he’s a unicorn. If I had to make one though, it’s a more athletic Matt Ryan.
