Three Wins in a Row for the Angelinos

The Los Angeles Galaxy notched their third win a row in a quick turnaround game Friday night in Vancouver.  The Angelinos two nil win over Vancouver also marked their first shutout win of the season, a confidence booster for not only the defense but the entire team.

It was a classic Vancouver/LA matchup Friday night and it started with a penalty being called not even 1 minute into the match. Ali Adnan would step up and attempt a poorly taken panenka kick that Galaxy keeper David Bingham was able to get back to and smother up. It would set the tone for Vancouver who was unable to find the back of the net the entire match. David Bingham proved big in the Galaxy win, racking up a couple great saves to keep the game scoreless in the first half.

The second half belonged to LA and once again the triple threat in their midfield proved to be too much for the opposition to handle. But the star of the game was Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who notched a goal and an assist to lead LA to victory. A beautifully put in ball by Zlatan, off a corner kick Vancouver failed to clear out, would find the head of Daniel Steres and put LA up 1-0. 8 minutes later Zlatan would bring a ball down with his chest and absolutely rocket a half volley into the roof of the goal. 2-0 LA and that would be the final score.

Concerns with winger Romain Alessandrini, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, playing on artificial turf were quickly put away, as both players kept signaling to the bench throughout the match that they were ok and good to go. If they can stay healthy throughout this MLS season the Galaxy offense will be one of the best in the league.

It’s the third win in as many tries for LA who now sits second in the West behind cross town team LAFC. LAFC will have a tough game against Eastern conference team DC United led by Wayne Rooney, Saturday afternoon at 12 pm. The Galaxy will have 8 days rest before their next game at home against the Philadelphia Union. The Galaxy and LAFC will meet July 19th at Dignity Health Sports Park, a possible Western conference final preview.
