The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly – New England Patriots

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly – New England Patriots

Last night on Sunday Night Football, the New England Patriots took on their first real challenge when they faced the Baltimore Ravens. The game ended in a 17 point win for the Ravens. The final score of the game was 37-20.

Lamar Jackson had himself a game. He was a great running back for the Baltimore Ravens. The Patriots defense could not stop the run no matter who held the ball for the better part of the night. It was very similar to Nick Chubb of Cleveland one week prior. With that being said, I’ll dive right into it.

The Ugly:

Patriots Rush Defense: For the second strait week the rush defense gives up over 120 yards to a upper tier Running Back. In this game we can add on that Lamar Jackson had another 61 yards with two touchdowns.

Marshall Newhouse: Newhouse needs to go. He is averaging 2.7 penalties per game and is killing the offense’s momentum in key moments of key drives. He is a liability to the offense.

The Bad:

Tom Brady’s Distribution Of Passes: Twenty of the thirty completion Brady had in this game went to Julian Edelman or Mohamed Sanu. There was no distribution of the football what so ever. Brady needs to get on the same page with everyone on the team and spread the ball out more.

Giving Up On The Running Game: The Patriots offense has become extremely one demential. They are probably going to pass the ball. They Ran the ball 17 times for 71 yards. They never really made any headway rushing.

Julian Edelman’s Fumble: This was the true turning point of the game. The Patriots were driving downfield within a single touchdown of the Ravens. They got into at least field goal range and Edelman made a solid football move and lost control of the ball. The Ravens returned it for a touchdown.

The Good:

Mohamed Sanu: After the first game it looked rough for Sanu. It looked like the Patriots had traded for the wrong WR. Sanu had 10 catches for 81 yards and a touchdown. Brady was targeting him like he had been in the offense all year.

There wasn’t a lot of good for the Patriots in this game beyond that. They failed their first big test of the season with a gruesome slate of games looking ahead. They have two weeks to figure out what went wrong.
