The Cleveland Browns are signing John Johnson away from the Los Angeles Rams. The safety has spent the last four seasons in LA after being drafted in the 3rd round of the 2017 draft. He has been one of the most productive Safeties in the league in that time. Johnson was highly underrated by everyone who watches football… except the Cleveland Browns.
The Browns are signing John Johnson to a three year, $33.75 million deal. Cleveland is getting one of the smartest, most instinctive Safeties in the league. He also brings a level of leadership and reliability to the Browns secondary. Many GM’s around the league believe that he is the best S in the league. A very good price for a very good player who should have been tagged by his former team. Rams just didn’t have the cap room to pay him and their loss is Cleveland’s win.
Last season, Johnson played in all 16 games where his final stats where 105 total tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 8 passes defended, and one interception. This is Cleveland’s first move of free agent frenzy and it’s a giant splash. Johnson will fit in well in a secondary that already includes young superstar CB Denzel Ward. Look for them to be a problem in the AFC North next season.
