Texans Improve to 3-7 After Win vs. Patriots

After defeating the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football 23-17, the New England Patriots were looking to continue on the right path and extend the winning streak to 2 games against the Houston Texans. Unfortunately for New England, Houston won the game 27-20.

During the first quarter, the Patriots took advantage of the Texans punting the ball to get on the board first on a 9-yard touchdown run by Damian Harris to lead the game 7-0. Although New England scored first, Houston wasted no time scoring on the next drive of the game on a touchdown pass from Deshaun Watson to Randall Cobb to tie up the game at 7, which is where the score stood after one quarter.

To start the second quarter, Houston failed to get on the board which New England took advantage of, ending in a 45-yard field goal from Nick Folk to take a 10-7 lead. After the Patriots took a 3 point lead, the rest of the second quarter was all Houston. Watson gave them a 14-10 lead on a 4-yard touchdown run. Before the end of the second quarter, Houston increased the lead to 21-10 on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Watson to Keke Coutee. Heading into halftime, Houston led the game 21-10.

Starting the second half, both teams had no luck moving the ball downfield resulting in less than 10 yards on their first possessions of the half. On their second possession, New England cut the lead to 21-17 on a 42-yard touchdown pass from Cam Newton to Damiere Byrd. Even though the Texans’ lead was now down to 4, it did not last long after they made it a 24-17 on a 36-yard field goal from Ka’imi Fairbairn. At the end of the 3rd quarter, Houston led the game 24-17.

In the fourth quarter, the Patriots continued the momentum they had after finishing the 3rd quarter with the ball and it ended in a 36-yard field goal from Folk to make it a 24-20 Houston lead. Just after the field goal, Houston drove down the field ending with a 46-yard field goal from Fairbairn to make it 27-20. With the lead being only 7 points, New England had a chance to tie up the game at the end, but the Houston defense stopped them every chance they had to tie up the game. The Texans would go on to win the game 27-20.

For New England, Cam Newton threw for 365 yards and 1 touchdown while completing 26 out of his 40 pass attempts. On the ground, Newton ran for 6 yards on 10 carries.

On the Houston side of things, Deshaun Watson threw for 344 yards and 2 touchdowns, while completing 28 out of his 37 passes on the day. On the ground, Watson ran for 36 yards on 6 carries and 1 touchdown.

After winning against the Patriots, Houston is heading to Ford Field to play the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day. Detroit is coming off a 20-0 shutout loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

New England is set to host the Arizona Cardinals at Gillette Stadium on Sunday. Arizona is coming off a heartbreaking 28-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
