Tempers Flare in Colorado

Nolan Arenado and Luis Perdomo find themselves as the focal point of the night after the two engaged in a benches clearing brawl, during Arenado’s at-bat. Perdomo, pitcher for the San Diego Padres, hit Arenado, third baseman for the Colorado Rockies, on the first pitch of his at-bat in the bottom of the third; Arenado was the lead-off hitter.

After taking the 96-MPH fastball to the lower-back, Arenado immediately dropped his bat, removed his helmet, and started towards the mound. Perdomo reacted by back-pedaling away into the safety of his teammates and throwing his glove at Arenado.

The benches quickly cleared coming to the aid of their players, as well as attempting to break up the brawl, which ultimately resulted in other brawls around the mound as well. The mound moved from the mound to the third base dugout as tempers continued to flare.

Five players were ejected as a result including, Arenado, Perdomo, Rockies outfielder Gerardo Parra, as well as pitcher German Marquez, and Padres catcher A.J. Ellis.

This event may have resulted from the game last night where Padres’ center-fielder Manuel Margot was hit by a pitch in the ribs, resulting in him being on the disabled list. However, since the teams have had seven meetings this season and six batters have been hit within those games, there is reason to believe this trend could continue.
