Takeshi Morishima Comes Out of Retirement – Return Match Announced

Monsters never go away, and Puroresu just got it’s “Monster” back!

As of today, after three-and-a-half years, “The Japanese Monster” Takeshi Morishima has formally announced that he will officially be making a comeback to the ring.

Morishima, a former 3x GHC Heavyweight Champion and a former Ring of Honor World Champion, retired in April 2015. His retirement was followed by an announcement from Pro Wrestling NOAH, his home promotion, that a blood test had revealed an abnormally high glycated hemoglobin, which suggested diabetes. Following this announcement, his contract was allowed to expire but his retirement ceremony was cancelled in the process.

Following his departure, Morishima had distanced himself from wrestling altogether, working multiple odd jobs (such as a clerk and a bouncer) before a fated encounter as a coach for a local organization reignited his passion for wrestling again. His training in preparation allowed his weight to drop to 125lbs and he was determined to make a comeback.

Symbolically, it seems the lack of the retirement ceremony indicated that Morishima was not done with the sport. His return match has been announced for “GENESIS – The Return of Takeshi Morishima” in Korauken Hall on October 15th, the day of his 40th birthday. The event is produced by legendary wrestler Riki Choshu and Morishima’s opponent has yet to be determined.

Regardless of who he wrestles, the “Monster” is back again and the Puroresu world will be ready to welcome him with open arms!
