Subban, Turris Trade Rumor Update

Subban, Turris Trade Rumor Update

After a First Round exit by the Nashville Predators, maybe it is time to take things back to the drawing board and reassess where to go from here.

Since their 2017 Stanley Cup Finals appearance against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Nashville Predators have won the Central Division back to back years, along with a Presidents’ Trophy last season.

However, the Predators have failed both seasons to get out of the Second Round, including not even reaching the Second Round this year.

With the window of having a cup contender team closing year, after year, the Predators may have to make a few moves to clear some cap space up and improve their team.

Defenseman P.K. Subban, and Center Kyle Turris have been two names thrown out in the mist as Subban’s contract carries an annual average cap hit of $9 million until the end of the 2021-22 season, and Turris’ contract is $6 million annually until the end of the 2023-24 season.

Statistically, P.K. Subban is coming off his worst season in his career recording just 31 points in 63 games played.

Since being traded from Ottawa, Kyle Turris has played 120 games for Nashville recording 20 goals, and 45 assists total; not the production you would expect out of your third highest paid Forward.

With Roman Josi, Dan Hamhuis, Yannick Weber, and Matt Irwin all becoming unrestricted free agents at the end of next season, along with Ryan Ellis’ contract taking a $4.2 million increase heading into next season, managing cap space as well as keeping together a Stanley Cup contender team will certainly be no small task for GM David Poile.

Poile has not been shy of blockbuster deals either, Shea Weber for P.K. Subban, and Seth Jones for Ryan Johansen to name a few.

With Johansen, Forsberg, and Arvidsson all locked in until at least the end of the 2022-23 season, Nashville has the core of a team that is capable of bringing a Stanley Cup to the city of Nashville.

A few teams that would be a good fit for Defenseman P.K. Subban are the New York Rangers, and New Jersey Devils; both teams are in the rebuilding process and in desperate need of an elite Veteran Defenseman.
