The St. Louis Blues headed into this season expecting to be contenders after a fairly active offseason, however just about halfway through the season, the Blues sit dead last in the league with 34 points in 37 games.
So what does a team do that is not performing well that does have talent on their roster?
Veteran Defenseman Alex Pietrangelo is the first one that comes to mind.
Pietrangelo is in his 11th season with St. Louis and has recorded 368 points with the Blues, however just 11 points this season.
Numerous teams are in need of a solid, veteran Defenseman like Pietrangelo.
Teams like Toronto, Florida, Boston, Vegas, and Columbus could all see value in acquiring Pietrangelo via trade.
Toronto and Boston are both contenders in the Eastern Conference and could use any help on defense in their attempts to knock out Tampa Bay and their dangerous offensive onslaught.
The Panthers could use Pietrangelo simply to bring experience, and add skill to their defensive core.
Vegas playing in a heavily talented Western Conference could also use a defenseman like Pietrangelo to try to match San Jose’s Karlsson and Burns duo, along with shut down explosive offensive units like Nashville, Winnipeg, and Colorado.
The Blue Jackets have been solid in the Metropolitan Division in the last few years, however have not been able to defeat perennial powerhouses Pittsburgh, and Washington.
Alex Pietrangelo could get them over the hill.
By no means are any of these a definite, however with the trade deadline next month, the hockey world will be turned up a notch and tensions will increase as teams prepare for their respective playoff runs, or for St. Louis yet another offseason rebuild.
