Tony Stewart is set to return to NASCAR competition at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Stewart will compete in the NASCAR Xfinity Series event on July 4th at the speedway, as the series will contest the infield road course layout at the track.
Stewart told NASCAR.com this morning, “It’s going to be cool making history by turning left and right in a stock car at the Brickyard, and the racing will be full of action and contact. Any time you can drive any race car at the speedway is special, and you know I’m going for the win. The date is already circled on my calendar.”
Stewart hung up his helmet at the conclusion of the 2016 NASCAR Cup Series season, and has not been behind the wheel of stock car since then. However, Stewart has kept busy during this time, dedicating his time to ownership duties at Stewart-Haas Racing and competing across the country in numerous dirt racing series events.
No word on the car number or sponsor for the car at this time, but he will be racing a Stewart-Haas Racing Ford in the event.
