Should Toronto Fire Babcock?

Should Toronto Fire Babcock?

There is no question Mike Babcock is an exceptional hockey coach.

Since starting in 2002, Babcock has coached the Ducks from 2002-2004, leading them a Stanley Cup Finals appearance, the Red Wings from 2006-2015, winning the Stanley Cup in 2008, and making another Finals appearance in 2009, and now the Toronto Maple Leafs since the 2015-16 season.

In the four seasons with the Maple Leafs, Babcock has led Toronto to the Playoffs three times, being eliminated in the First Round each year; including now back to back First Round eliminations from the Boston Bruins.

Babcock has an overall record of 691-408-19-160 as Head Coach, and a record of 164-123-41 as the Maple Leafs Head Coach.

Let me make myself clear.

Mike Babcock is not the problem in Toronto; this coach knows how to coach a team to a Stanley Cup title, the Maple Leafs need to step up and break their First Round curses, as they have not made the Second Round since 2004.

To be fair, the new playoff format has not favored Toronto as they have now faced a very strong Boston Bruins in the First Round of the past two years in the Playoffs.

However, Toronto has the roster to at least make it passed the First Round no matter who they play.

If Toronto fires Babcock, they will be doing nothing but prolonging their success in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
