Since the end of the 2020 NFL Season, there was speculation going around about the Miami Dolphins and what the team is going to do with the 3rd overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. After weeks of trade talks and speculation, the team pulled the trigger. On Friday, Miami traded the 3rd overall pick to the San Francisco 49ers for the 12th overall pick, 2021 3rd round pick, 2022 1st round pick, and a 2023 1st round pick.
The Miami Dolphins were not done yet, after trading away the 3rd overall pick, the Philadelphia Eagles traded the 6th overall pick to Miami for the 12th overall pick and a 2022 first round pick. The teams also swapped mid round picks as well with pick 156 going to Miami and pick 123 going to Philadelphia.
In 6 games last season, Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 1,096 yards, 7 touchdowns, 5 interceptions, with a passer rating of 92.4. After helping San Francisco make it to the Super Bowl, Graoppolo had a down season in 2020 a huge part of that is due to dealing with an ankle sprain throughout the season and cost him to miss several games.
With San Francisco now acquiring the 3rd overall pick, the team will most likely be looking to upgrade at Quarterback. With Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, and Trey Lance all expected to be high draft picks, the team will land a Quarterback if that is where San Francisco is going.
With Miami trading the 3rd overall pick and acquiring the 6th overall pick shortly after, the team now has a lot of draft capital to build around. After trade talks of Miami going after Deshaun Watson, looks like the team is going to build around Tua Tagavolla.
