This has been an entire season of the New York Jets acting like they didn’t know what they were going to do with Sam Darnold. The questions started to come after their 2-14 season awarded them the 2nd overall pick in the draft later this month. Sam Darnold gets traded to the Carolina Panthers and will start a new chapter away from the New York Jets and Adam Gase.
Darnold heads to Carolina in exchange for a 2021 sixth round draft pick and a 2022 second and fourth rounder. Not a bad haul for a QB that didn’t have a great season. The Jets are currently looming at that two spot and are highly anticipated to draft QB Zack Wilson out of BYU. Even if they don’t take Wilson, a QB will be taken by them between Alabama’s Mac Jones or Ohio State’s Justin Fields.
Now that Sam Darnold gets traded, we can openly say that many people attribute Darnold’s lack of progress to the fact that Adam Gase is one of the worst Head Coaches that has been in the NFL over the past ten years. Some would argue that he never really got a fair chance to flourish in the Jets system. Teddy Bridgewater will now have to fight Sammy D. for a starting spot in Matt Rhule’s very college like system. Darnold takes his 13-25 career record to Carolina who looks like they are on the verge of something special.
Jets GM Joe Douglas made a statement regarding the trade on social media today which can be seen below.
