Ryan Newman Update

Ryan Newman Update

As NASCAR witnessed last week at Phoenix Raceway, Ryan Newman was back at the race track only 18 days after his violent crash at Daytona International Speedway, which has sidelined him for the time being.

Wednesday morning, Newman made an appearance on NBC’s Today Show to discuss his accident in his first sit-down interview since the crash. Newman stated that he’s been diagnosed with a bruised brain after the accident, and that his current timetable for a return to racing is uncertain.

In his first public comments about the accident, Newman stated, “It’s still humbling to watch and know that I am sitting here without a headache, which is amazing. It’s just a miracle on so many levels. I’m thankful for so many people for prayers, and for all the things that went into me being safer in that situation. The angels aligned and held a really good grip.”

He also added that, “It’s not just me. There’s a whole group at NASCAR that’s done a great job, from the tracks to the safety personnel, the drivers inside the cars, the cockpits, the containment seats that we have. There are so many levels of things that happened in the last 20 years that I’ve been part of the sport that helped me be able to sit here today.”

For the time being, Roush Fenway Racing has enlisted the services of Ross Chastain to drive the No. 6 Ford while Newman recovers.

We here at the Game Changer Sports Network wish Ryan a speedy recovering, and hope to see him back behind the wheel soon!
