2020 seems to be the year that Ryan Garcia (19-0, 16 KO’s) is planning to take the next leap in his boxing career. On Valentine’s Day, Garcia looks to take on Francisco Fonseca in another increase in opponent difficulty. Fonseca had fights against current and former world champions, Gervonta Davis and Tevin Farmer. Many see this as another bout that Garcia will win, but his future looks to hold the next step in finally becoming a world champion.
Ryan Garcia was named as prospect of the year by ESPN in 2017, and has since steadily increased in fame both inside and outside of the ring, currently boasting a 4.1 million Instagram follower count. He has come along finely since his prospect of the year award when he was still being trained by his father in his family garage. Since then he has joined the stable of 2019 Boxing Trainer of the Year Eddy Reynoso, who trains with the likes of other boxing world champions Canelo Alvarez and Oscar Valdez.
On the same card this Valentine’s Day is former world champion Jorge Linares, who lost his title by TKO in 2018 to Vasyl Lomachenko Golden Boy president has previously stated in the past, if both fighters come out victorious a match between the two will be very likely. At the same time, Garcia has been seen multiple times in Twitter feuds with other world champions Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney. Lack of opponents should be no exusce for the young prospect.
