We at the Game Changer Sports Network are sad to report that Rocky Johnson, WWE Hall of Famer and professional wrestling legend, has passed away at the age of 75.
The news was first broken by the Cauliflower Alley Club, in a tweet at the top of the hour:
Johnson was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008, and is considered one of the greatest African-American wrestlers of all time. Making his bones throughout the NWA and AWA territories. During that time, Johnson would rack up countless heavyweight and tag-team titles, feuding with wrestling legends such as Terry Funk, Harley Race, and Jerry Lawler. Eventually, Johnson would find himself in WWE (then World Wrestling Federation) in the early 1980s.
It was on Nov. 15, 1983, where Johnson, along with partner Tony Atlas, became the first African-American tag team to win the WWF Tag Team Championships, defeating the legendary tag team in The Wild Samoans.
Johnson is the father of actor and former wrestler, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
WWE has confirmed the story. You can view their announcement here
From all of us at Game Changer Sports Network, we send our deepest condolences to the Johnson family.
