Roberto Firmino doubtful vs. PSG

Roberto Firmino doubtful vs. PSG

Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino missed training today as a result of injuring his eye while playing against Tottenham two days ago.

He was inadvertently poked in the eye by Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen and was taken out of the match later on for Jordan Henderson. While his prognosis was good, it remains unclear whether or not the superstar will be available for the Reds’ first Champions League match tomorrow.

This was NOT photoshopped.

Team manager Jürgen Klopp was not certain that the striker would be able to hit the pitch against Paris Saint-Germain, but he did seem optimistic.

“If we played today, no chance but we all hope that there is a chance until tomorrow. So that is the good news, that he will be close for the game, because when everybody saw the picture after the game we were all shocked.”

The 26-year-old will have an opportunity to prove that he is fit enough to play tomorrow morning when the available players will train set pieces. So we should be aware soon enough. If he is not ready to play, look for Klopp to do one of two things.

The first is that he could keep his 4-3-3 formation but switch out Firmino for either Xherdan Shaqiri or Daniel Sturridge. The Swiss international has yet to make a big splash with his new team so far, and this game could give him the boost that he needs. Sturridge could also use a boost as he’s been relegated to second half substitution duty.

The second is that they could switch up their formation to a 4-4-2 adding newcomer Fabinho as a monster defensive midfielder and making Naby Keïta a roaming threat on the attacking third. And if not Keïta, James Milner could fit in that role as well.

This game could serve as a perfect introduction for Fabinho.

Personally, I believe that the latter would serve as a brilliant way to introduce the Liverpool faithful to the former AS Monaco star. Fabinho played in Ligue One for a number of years and played PSG several times. Utilizing him would serve the Reds well since he knows Neymar and company better than anyone else on the side.

Nonetheless, we will have a better idea in the coming hours, and we here at Fancred will be sure to update you all.
