RESULTS: Michigan FireKeepers 400 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series

Even though he led the most laps Monday, Joey Logano needed some extra racing to seal the deal at Michigan International Speedway. After rain washed out the race which was originally scheduled for Sunday, Joey Logano captured the checkered flag after leading 163 of the 203 scheduled laps to win his second race of the 2019 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series season.

A late spin by Erik Jones brought out the caution flag, which set up for a thrilling finish involving the top three of Joey Logano, Kurt Busch and Martin Truex Jr. However, with the dominant car for the majority of the race and after starting on the pole, Logano was able to hold the top spot and cross the finish line first in his Penske Racing No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford Mustang.

“What a great execution day from our race car, obviously very fast. Our pit crew was amazing. T.J. Majors spotted his butt off up there. The race fans sticking around till Monday, you guys are the best. We love coming up to Michigan. Nothing like bringing a Ford to Victory Lane in their home turf, Roger Penske cars as well. This is a big win for us,” Logano stated after his win.

Kurt Busch finished second behind Logano with an impressive run for the driver of the No. 1 Monster Energy Chevrolet Camaro. His drive for a win almost came to an end after sustaining right-rear damage to the car on lap 42. Busch, however, was able to pilot his Chevrolet to a second place finish despite the damage. Martin Truex Jr. finished in third, followed by Daniel Suarez and Kyle Busch in fourth and fifth.

The next race for the Monster Energy Cup Series takes place at Sonoma Raceway, the first of three road courses to be contested in 2019. The Toyota/Save Mart 350 goes green Sunday, June 23 at 3pm EST on Fox Sports 1. This race also serves as the final race Fox will broadcast this season, as well as the final race for Darrell Waltrip on commentary.
