Simon Pagenaud danced his way to a victory Saturday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to win his first race of the 2019 NTT IndyCar Season.
In a race that changed conditions numerous times throughout the day, Pagenaud passed leader Scott Dixon with two laps to go to secure the victory. Dixon would finish in second almost two seconds behind Pagenaud. With rain lingering the entire day, Pagenaud was able to make his move late in the race to claim the win. His win comes 23 races after his last victory at Sonoma in 2017.
“What a way to start May! The car was fantastic, the car was awesome all day. We had something for everybody. It was a matter of being in the right position. I pushed all race. When the rain came, I wasn’t sure it was going to work. Surprisingly, it was just the best out there,” said Pagenaud after his win.
Jack Harvey finished a career-best third place for Meyer-Shank Racing. Harvey is only scheduled to compete in a ten race schedule this season in preparation for a full season assault on the championship next season. In another career best finished, Matheus Leist finished in fourth position driving for AJ Foyt Racing.
