According to a report from Le Progres, Barcelona have agreed to personal terms with Lyon striker Memphis Depay. The 26-year-old is not yet a Barca player, but if this report is accurate, he could be on his way to Catalonia very soon. Barca will hope that they can strike an agreement with the French club before the end of this week, as Lyon’s President Jean-Michel Aulas announced that any player still on the team by the weekend will remain.
We previously reported on this potential move last month. At that time, they had yet to lose Luis Suarez to Atletico Madrid, and they were in the middle of attempting to keep Leo Messi, who was trying to leave the club. A month ago, the idea of bringing in Depay was more about bringing in a superstar reinforcement than a replacement for a club legend.
In other Lyon transfer news, the club has also continued negotiating with Arsenal for their star midfielder Houssem Aouar. The London club has attempted on at least two occasions to buy the Frenchman, but Aulas has declined both offers. These next couple of days will be crucial for the French side that has struggled in Ligue One so far, as Depay and Aouar are two of their best players. The club as already lost five players from last season, including wingers Martin Terrier and Bertrand Traore, and defenders Marcal, Rafael, and Kenny Tete. They have, however, added to their club with former Villarreal forward Karl Toko Ekambi and AC Milan midfielder Lucas Paqueta.
