Rangers Duo Involved In Car Accident

Just after New York Rangers president John Davidson announces that the club would be extending Chris Kreider to a new seven-year deal, he also came out with some bad news.

New York Rangers forward Pavel Buchnevich and rookie goaltender Igor Shesterkin were involved in a car accident in Brooklyn on Sunday night.

Pavel Buchnevich was not injured, and is practicing with the team today. Igor Shesterkin suffered a non-displaced rib fracture and will be out for at least two to three weeks.

According to Davidson, the accident occurred around 8:30 PM local time Sunday night. Shesterkin was driving, and he and Buchnevich were the only two in the vehicle.

The accident happened when another vehicle pulled a U-turn right in front of them, and Shesterkin did not have enough time to come to a stop. Airbags in the vehicle did deploy. Both players were taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital where they were both assessed, and have since been released.

Shesterkin has been lights out in his rookie year with the Rangers so far, posting a 6-1-0 record with a 2.18 GAA and .941 save percentage thus far. His injury forces the team to go back to the tandem of Lundqvist and Georgiev. Definitely a blow to a Rangers team who has fought their way back into a playoff race.
