Preseason Week 1 – Thursday’s Big Takeaways

The NFL season is back upon us. We move towards the start of the season as teams take the field.

– Cleveland Browns first round picks look great in debut’s. QB Baker Mayfield went 11-for-20 and racked up 212 yards and two touchdowns. CB Denzel Ward laid down a big hit and finished the game with two tackles. He was shutdown most of the game.

– Giants rookie RB Saquan Barkley is the real deal. The first run of the game saw him break through for a 39-yard gain. He would only get three more touches for four yards before sitting out the rest of the game.

– New England Patriots are still a second-half team, no matter who is on the field. After going into halftime losing 17-3 the Patriots fought their way back to a 24-17 victory.

– Jacksonville’s defense picked up where they left off at the end of last season grabbing three sacks.

– Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes still has some learning to do. His stat sheet looks pretty good going 5-for-7 with 33 yards. In reality, he stepped into a sack and hesitated to throw the ball over ten yards downfield.

– Andrew Luck is back and looks ready to go. Luck led the Colts on two drives in which he went 6-for-9 with 64 yards.
