Post-Pocono Penalty Report

Post-Pocono Penalty Report

The history making weekend at Pocono Raceway is over and done with.

Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin walked away with the checkered flag in the two NASCAR Cup Series races, while Chase Briscoe and Brandon Jones took wins in the Xfinity Series and Gander RV & Outdoor Series events respectively.

However, the weekend was not without resulting race infractions or penalties.

After the Pocono Organics 325 on Saturday, both the No. 14 of Clint Bowyer and the No. 11 Hamlin were found to have one lug nut loose on their cars. As a result, crew chiefs of both of those cars will be fined $10,000. Sunday’s post-race inspection saw more of the same, as the No. 4 of Kevin Harvick and the No. 19 of Martin Truex Jr. were found to have the same issue. Both crew chiefs of those respective cars will also be fined $10,000.

The biggest penalty of the weekend came during Sunday’s Xfinity Series Pocono Green 225. Justin Haley and Riley Herbst were racing close together on lap 49, when Herbst made slight contact with Haley exiting turn No. 3. Herbst was able to get around Haley, but when the two made their way down the front stretch, Haley hooked the No. 18 of Herbst causing his to spin into the wall slightly, which brought out the yellow flag. Haley subsequently pitted his No. 11, but was held for two laps as a result of his aggressive driving. Both Haley and he crew chief were summoned to the NASCAR hauler for a discussion following the race. Haley would finish in 23rd, while Herbst would rally to finish in 9th.

No word as of yet whether the incident will result in any additional penalties or fines for Haley.
