Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski Announces Retirement

The career of the great Rob Gronkowski has come to a close. He took to instagram Sunday to announce his retirement from the NFL. After winning his third Super Bowl as a member of the Patriots and mulling retirement since after Super Bowl 52, the fan favorite tight end has decided to call it a career.

He ends his career with 521 catches, 7,681 yards, and 79 touchdowns. That’s right, 79 “Gronk Spikes” in his nine-year career. He steps away from football at the young age of 29 years old. Injuries have pushed him to this decision and after having a remarkably slow year, he takes to the next chapter of his life.

This leaves a gaping hole in the TE position for the Patriots as they have no immediate replacement for Gronkowski. Who played a GREAT role in both receiving and run blocking his entire career. With the main focus being his support in the run game late in his career.
