Osuna Arrested

Toronto Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna was arrested Tuesday morning for domestic assault. According to a police report he has been charged with domestic assault, and is due to appear in court on June 18th. The court date comes on an off-day during a Blue Jay home-stand.

While the investigation is underway, Major League Baseball has placed Osuna on administrative leave, stating to Sportsnet:

MLB takes all allegations of this nature very seriously,” the league said in a statement. “We are investigating the circumstances and have placed Roberto Osuna on Administrative Leave in accordance with the Joint MLB-MLBPA Domestic Violence Policy.”

In 2015, both MLB and the MLB Players Association came to an agreement that they would allow the league to do their own investigation on any domestic violence allegations. During this process, the league would have the option to place players on administrative leave.

Commissioner Rob Manfred takes these allegations very seriously, and takes his time to ensure the right decision is made once all the information is gathered.

The 23-year-old has been in The Show for four years, appearing in 15 games this season and having a 2.93 ERA. Earlier this season he became the youngest player in MLB history to accumulate 100 saves.

While this may hurt the Blue Jays bullpen, the club released this statement on Twitter:

“We are aware of the incident involving Roberto and fully support the decision by the Commissioner’s office to place him on administrative leave. We are taking the matter extremely seriously, as the type of conduct associated with this incident is not reflective of our values as an organization. As this remains an ongoing investigation by the Toronto Police, the Club will not comment further on the matter.”
