NXT Takeover: Chicago Predictions

NXT Takeover: Chicago Predictions

NXT comes back to Chicago for their WWE Network special tomorrow night, streaming live from the Allstate Arena. There are only 5 matches confirmed on the card as of today, and each one has promise to deliver entertaining and quality bouts. With that said, let’s get into our predictions for NXT: Takeover: Chicago!

1)   The Undisputed Era (Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong) vs Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch NXT Tag Team Championship Match

Projected Winners: The Undisputed Era

The Undisputed Era has been rolling since Takeover: New Orleans where Adam Cole won the North American Championship and the stable won the NXT tag titles after a heel turn from Roderick Strong during the finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. The straps make the group legitimate, and the group is seemingly built to have a long and tryrannical reign as champs.  This is leading to an up and coming team getting the rub and a major push after they dethrone them. With that said, Lorcan and Burch are simply not the ones to do that.

Look for this match to be a mix of everything – fast paced, slow paced, ground and pound, and high flying antics.

2) Ricochet vs Velveteen Dream

Projected Winner: Ricochet

Are you as excited for this match as we are? Two of the most physically gifted competitors in WWE/NXT going one-on-one is the set up for a bonafide classic. Ricochet is fairly new to NXT, with Velveteen dream making a name for himself as one of the most unique and organic stars in NXT; getting accolades of the likes of John Cena, who called him “The One”. With that said, Ricochet will most likely be walking out of Chicago the winner, as Ricochet is still looking for his first NXT Takerover special victory.

Regardless of who wins, this match will be a high flying and hard hitting masterpiece, with some of that Velveteen Dream humor sprinkled in. We are predicting this to be a contender for match of the night.

3) Shayna Baszler vs Nikki Cross – NXT Women’s Championship

Projected Winner: Shayna Blaszler

Blaszler has been an unstoppable force in WWE since she came onto the scene in NXT. While many people criticized her push as WWE simply favoring former UFC/MMA fighters, she has proven to be a credible champion and a force of nature in the ring. Nikki Cross has been in NXT for a decent period of time, and has been a solid in-ring worker with a unique character from the rest of the NXT division.

The match up of Cross and Blaszer has some promise, as both have vicious ring styles. While Blaszer has the MMA background, Cross has the experience. However, the combination of Blaszer’s continual rise and Cross’ tenure in NXT make the decision for Blaszer to cross over relatively easy.

This match could also possibly mark the beginning of the end for Cross’ run in NXT. Thus, she would likely join her fellow Sanity members on SmackDown Live.

4) Aleister Black vs Lars Sullivan – NXT Championship

Projected Winner: Alesiter Black

While this match is getting heavily overshadowed by the hype of the Ricochet/Dream and Gargano/Ciampa matches, one should consider this match to be a bathroom break bout. Black has been a dominant champion since winning the title in Philadelphia, with his Black-Mass kick, still the ultimate equalizer to every match. Sullivan has also been on the rise, and is seen currently as NXT’s equivalent of Braun Strowman. He’s a big, superhuman force with seemingly no brick wall big enough to stop him.

This match will be a test for Black to see if he can work a much slower and methodical foe than he’s used to. More importantly, it will be a test for Sullivan to see if he can rise to the occasion in a championship match. Will he be a future star or just another big man? A single match does not a career make, but it could be a good indication for things to come.

With all that said, Black seems to be the safest choice for the winner.

5) Johnny Gargano vs Tommaso Ciampa – Chicago Street Fight

Projected Winner: Tommaso Ciampa

How could it not be last? It’s the biggest and most intense feud in NXT, and quite frankly all of WWE as well. The feud has been taken to new heights with Ciampa refusing to let Gargano move on with his career. The breaking point came when Ciampa attacked Gargano, inadvertently forcing him to knock down his actual wife, Candice LeRae.

An incensed Gargano pushed for a street fight stipulation to be added to this match with the hopes of “ending this, once and for all.” How this stipulation is any different from their last match in New Orleans is still hard to figure out. However, inconsistant and silly booking aside, this match is sure to be a great showing, although it will be a challenge to live up their last bout and the cheer hype of this feud.

Ciampa will likely win this match, thus continuing the feud for at least one more match. Will Candice LeRae be involved? Will she cost her husband the match? We will find out tomorrow night.
