Nick Newell To Get Chance For UFC Opportunity

The impossible has happened. WSOF veteran and congenial amputee Nick Newell will get a chance to fight for an opportunity at a UFC contract. The news comes after Newell’s manager met with Dana White on Wednesday. After long negotiations, Dana White and the UFC have decided to let Nick fight at Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series.

A UFC contract is not guaranteed for Newell or any other fighter participating at DWTNCS. Even a win doesn’t guarantee you a contract. The contracts are given based on multiple factors: winning, performance, and crowd reaction, to name a few. The series kicked off last summer and was a huge hit with the fans. I personally loved every one of them. ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley and Julian Marquez are my favorite fighters from the series.

Nick Newell is 14-1 in his pro MMA career. The lone loss was for the WSOF lightweight title against Justin Gaethje. Nick was beaten by TKO in the second round, but it was Justin Gaethje who is just a savage. Other than that one hiccup, Newell has been unbeaten. He has nine wins by submission, two by knockout and three by decision. His grappling is his best tribute along with his toughness. I have been a fan since 2013 when he joined the WSOF.

This will be the toughest test for Newell, not only in the cage but with all the media pressure. He needs to prove to the world and the UFC that he is a world class caliber fighter. I think he can win, because in my eyes he checks off all the boxes. Sure, he only has one and a half arms, but that has never slowed him down. Most see it as a disadvantage, but just ask his 14 victims how they feel about his “disadvantage.” Nick is a finisher and all he wants is a chance to prove himself and he finally has it. My boy Nick Newell WILL fight in the UFC. Mark my words.
