Read/React: 5

Health: 4

Total score= 22

Pros:

Nick Bolton is a physical Mike linebacker with a high motor who excels in diagnosing the offensive run and he also works well in tight spaces and has shown just from the start of his Junior season on how he can adapt and fix his technique so he does not over commit or over shoot angles on tackles. He is explosive and very flexible in his hips and has a solid center of gravity. Bolton is also good at disengaging and shedding the block due to his hands having a nice pop to them. Shows the ability to shoot the gap and penetrate the backfield.

Cons:

Bolton lacks size as he only comes in at 6 foot can put him at a disadvantage when it comes to stacking the blocker consistently. He lacks vertical speed so in man to man coverage against athletic running backs that stretch him across the field is something he struggles with, and he lacks the speed and discipline to pick them up at times. This also causes him to be inconsistent sideline from to sideline.

Summary:

Nick Bolton has a high motor and great effort to make plays. His explosiveness and instinct to find the ball will be a great advantage in a single-gap penetration front with shadow zone tendencies on B-level scheme. He has plenty of room to grow and can pick on his mistakes and fix them. He just needs to work more on covering in a open space and being patient while the pass play is developing.
