2020 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes, fresh off a Super Bowl win, is vouching for NBA games in Kansas City.
This push follows rumors that the Toronto Raptors will play their 2020-2021 season games in a U.S. city due to travel restrictions between the United States and Canada. Currently, Louisville, KY, is the front-runner to be the Raptors’ host.
Mahomes threw his hat in the ring on Twitter, offering Kansas City as another potential candidate for a temporary relocation. He later confirmed this desire in an interview on Wednesday.
Kansas City is buzzing from their recent Super Bowl win and the 10 year extension Mahomes signed with the Chiefs, keeping the superstar in the city for the next decade. Kansas City could be the next big sports city, already hosting a Major League Baseball team as well (the Royals) winning a World Series as early as 2015.
There’s also some NBA history in the city, mounting the possibility of a relocation or expansion to Kansas City sometime in the future. The Kansas City Kings played in the city from 1972 to 1985 before relocating to Sacramento, where the team currently resides.
