NBA Suspends Season

NBA Suspends Season

Tonight, The Utah Jazz game against The Oklahoma City Thunder was postponed because of an illness that Rudy Gobert has. Unfortunately, this illness was the coronavirus (COVID19). The players were escorted off the court to their locker rooms where they are now quarantined in the arena, per WOJ. Now, teammate Emmanuel Mudiay has also tested positive.

Earlier today, the Golden State Warriors had announced that they would be playing future home games in empty arenas with no fans present. The NBA was meeting to decide how they would continue the season. They considered following suit and playing all games without fans but after Gobert tested positive for the highly contagious virus, the NBA was quick to decide to suspend.

The coronavirus can lie dormant for up to two weeks with no symptoms. This means that anyone Gobert has interacted with in the past 14 days, including other players, will likely need to be tested. Other sports are taking necessary measures as well. We will likely see other leagues suspend their season until further notice.
