Montreal Grand Prix Qualifying and Race Predictions

After the rather boring Monaco Grand Prix, fans and drivers alike are excited for a more interesting race in Montreal this weekend. The qualifying lineup places Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari sitting on pole position, with Valtteri Bottas taking P2, two positions ahead of points leader, defending champion and teammate Lewis Hamilton. Vettel’s teammate Kimi Raikkonen qualified a lowly P5 ahead of exiting Monaco champion Daniel Ricciardo, who had a spectacular race in Monte Carlo two weeks ago. All eyes will be on Ricciardo’s teammate ‘Mad Max’ Verstappen, who qualified P3 for the coming race.

Max Verstappen has been under heavy pressure from his team bosses at Red Bull after numerous poor races this season, many of which resulted in the race ending for him. The young Dutchman will be hungry for redemption this weekend, and it doesn’t look like he’s going to let anyone stop him. His teammate Ricciardo is the defending Montreal champ, who will likely put up a monstrous fight, especially for Ferrari frontman Sebastian Vettel. I expect a strong showing from defending world champ Lewis Hamilton as well, who could potentially lose the points lead if Vettel does well enough in this race.

The Montreal track has a heavy focus on straight line speed, with lots of long straights separated by sharp corners. The final turn is especially notorious for ending races, even more so than Mad Max.

Dubbed the ‘Wall Of Champions’, numerous big names have had their egos decimated by the fearsome right/left chicane over the years, including Jenson Button, Jacques Villeneuve, Ralf and Michael Schumacher, and Damon Hill. Who will face destruction at the hands of the fearsome wall this year?
