Mikko Lehtonen Released From Jokerit

Jokerit (KHL) has released Mikko Lehtonen. The team and the player reportedly reached a mutual agreement to end his contract.

The defender posted 17 goals and 32 assists for 49 points in 60 games played this past season. He lead the KHL in points among defenceman. His release makes him arguably the best european free agent available.

The 26 year old can only sign an entry level contract. His low cost will make him a very sought after player in the upcoming weeks. Teams with not much cap space should be all over Lehtonen.

He has been linked to the New Jersey Devils by Russian outlet Championnat but nothing official yet.
