Miami Improves To 9-5 After Win vs. New England

Heading into the game against the Miami Dolphins, the New England Patriots were fighting to stay in the playoff picture. Unfortunately for New England, they will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2008 after losing to the Miami Dolphins 22-12.

Salvon Ahmed was a huge part of the success for Miami running for 122 yards and 1 touchdown, on 23 carries. With Myles Gaskin not activated off the reserve COVID-19 list, Ahmed had a chance for more carries and made the most out of it.

Even though Ahmed was the biggest bright spot on offense, Tua Tagovailoa had a decent showing throwing for 145 yards and 1 interception while completing 20 out of 26 passes. Even though New England held him to under 200 passing yards, Tagovailoa’s performance was enough to help Miami win. On the ground, Tagovailoa ran for 9 yards scoring 2 touchdowns on 3 carries.

Even though Miami won the game, the team did not have a wide receiver go over 100 receiving yards. Durham Smythe led the team with 5 receptions for 40 receiving yards. With the lack of production from the wide receivers, the running game came through in a big way for Miami.

On the defensive side of the ball, Miami came up big holding New England to only 12 points and keeping the team out of the endzone. Elandon Roberts led the way on defense with 9 tackles. Roberts also had a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown but it was called back after reviewing the play.

For New England, Cam Newton threw for 209 yards while completing 17 out of 27 passes. On the ground, Newton ran for 38 yards on 9 carries. Despite throwing and running for more yards than Tua Tagovailoa, Newton made mistakes during the game at crucial moments and could not lead New England to a touchdown.

Despite losing the game, New England had a wide receiver go over 100 receiving yards and it was Jakobi Meyers. Meyers had 7 receptions for 111 yards. Even though Meyers was one of the lone bright spots on offense for New England, it was not enough to get the win.

With New England not getting scoring a touchdown, all the scoring came from Nick Folk. Folk was a perfect 4 for 4 on his field-goal attempts with the longest field goal being from 45 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball for New England, the team held Miami to under 200 yards passing, Terez Hall led the way on defense. Hall had 13 tackles. Outside of Hall, J.C. Jackson played a big role on defense forcing an interception from Tua Tagovailoa. Although the team kept Miami in check passing-wise, just like last week against the Los Angeles Rams, New England could not stop the run allowing Miami to get 250 yards on the ground.

After winning against New England, Miami will be travel to Las Vegas to play the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium. Las Vegas is coming off a 30-27 overtime loss against the Los Angles Chargers.

After losing against Miami, New England will be heading home and host the Buffalo Bills at Gillette Stadium Monday Night Football. Buffalo is coming off winning the AFC East after a 48-19 win against the Denver Broncos.
