Melina Perez Re-Signs with WWE

Melina Perez Re-Signs with WWE

As first reported by PWInsider, former Multi-Time WWE Divas and Women’s Champion Melina Perez has re-signed with her former employer, with reports suggesting that Perez could return to WWE programming sometime within the next week!

Perez’s first run in WWE began with a developmental contract back in 2004, the following year would Perez make her main roster debut as manager of the tag team stable MNM (Joey Mercury & Johnny Nitro). In 2006 Perez would begin her singles career and would eventually win her first title in 2007, after defeating Mickie James on Monday Night RAW. Melina would go on to feud with the likes of Michelle McCool, Jillian Hall, Layla El and Natalya, and many others.

Perez was in both the first ever WWE Women’s Falls Count Anywhere and “I Quit” Matches, and was also Ranked #3 of the best 50 female wrestlers in the PWI Female 50 in 2009. Perez was released from WWE in 2011 and fully returned to working independent dates in 2015. Perez did sign with NWA in 2019, and would make her in-ring debut in December of that year at the company’s Into The Fire event. Her contract with NWA, has since expired, prompting her to sign back with the WWE.

While fans are ready to welcome back Perez with open arms, many are sincerely surprised that she is returning to the WWE. It is well known that backstage heat and in-fighting were primary causes of Perez’s original departure from WWE. With Perez herself often saying that she would most likely never return to the Pro-Wrestling giant. The question on everyone’s mind now is simple: What does WWE Do with Melina?

If you were asking this writer’s opinion, Monday Night RAW is the best place for Perez to go to. While the general state of WWE’s Women’s Division is a mixed bag, Monday Night RAW’s Women’s Division especially has been lackluster. And Becky Lynch’s departure back in May has not helped one bit. The Women’s Division within WWE, across all brands, has suffered tremendously by: Top-Heavy Booking, Injuries, and lack of direction. Could Melina, her signature split and her iconic “primal scream” bring so much needed excitement to the WWE Women’s locker room? We will have to wait and see!
