The #2 Women’s featherweight is set to make her long awaited UFC debut in Chicago. Her opponent will be the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm. This fight is huge for the women’s featherweight division. Megan Anderson is a former Invicta featherweight champion in her own right, and in my opinion, the only legit featherweight in the weight class besides UFC champion Cris Cyborg.
With a professional record of 10-2, Anderson is one of the most feared women in combat sports, having dispatched the likes of Charmaine Tweet, Peggy Morgan and Amanda Bell. She has won her last four fights in a row, all by TKO. She is as well rounded as it gets. Standing at 6 feet tall, she is the tallest women’s featherweight in the UFC and Invicta. She is coming off the best win of her career against Tweet, but has been sidelined due to visa issues. With those firmly behind her now, she is ready for the octagon.
Anderson’s opponent, Holly Holm, is the toughest test for any featherweight outside of Cyborg. She KO’d Ronda Rousey before it was cool. She is a multiple time world champion in boxing and kickboxing, but is also coming off a decision loss to Cris Cyborg at UFC 219. Holly’s distance and kicks make her a hard test for anyone. She has a flare for the dramatics such as her head kick KO’s of Rousey and Bethe Correia. I can’t wait for this fight. I expect a high level technical battle.
This fight to me will come down to the distance management and pressure. Holly Holm has been using both of those here entire life. Megan Anderson will have the height and reach advantage. I don’t think Holm will have an answer for either one. Megan will be able to hit Holly and not be hit. She will push the pace against Holly and land against the cage where Holm won’t be able to escape. Official prediction is Megan Anderson lands Holly’s own move on her, lands the head kick for the KO win in the second round.
