Young up and coming midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has completed a move from Arsenal to Hertha Berlin on Deadline Day. The young Frenchman will play at the German capital for the rest of this season and then will return to the Emirates next summer. According to sources, Arsenal will not be paid any amount of money for the player, however Hertha have agreed to pay Guendouzi’s wages this season.
The 21-year-old has been attempting to move on from Arsenal as a result of his all but nonexistent relationship with club manager Mikel Arteta. While he has proven at times to be an exceptional option as either a holding midfielder or defensive midfielder, the Frenchman hasn’t seen any action since he attacked Brighton striker Neal Maupay following a Premier League match in June. After trying to choke Maupay, it’s seemed all but a foregone conclusion that Guendouzi would have to be sent out on loan until the dust settles.
Additionally, with Arsenal close to completing a move for Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey, Guendouzi’s chances at appearing in many matches in the immediate future have all but evaporated.
Now in a new home for the next year, Guendouzi will be allowed to further improve his play. Speaking with the media following his unveiling, the newest Hertha Berliner said “I not only want to continue my development, but also help the club makes the next step.”
Last season, Hertha Berlin finished 10th in the Bundesliga and tied on points with in-city rival Union Berlin. Three match days into this season, the Berlin blues are 13th in the table but have just come off from almost drawing Bundesliga supergiant Bayern Munich. After the International Break, Guendouzi should make his debut when Hertha battles Stuttgart inside the mammoth Olympiastadion.
